Tanjung MP Chow Kon Yeow said the Finance Ministry had on March 29 confirmed that Seaport Terminal (Johore) Sdn Bhd, which is a holding company for the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Johor, had initiated due diligence process on Penang Port while in the final stages of completing a reported sale-and- purchase agreement with MOF Inc, the Finance Ministry’s investment arm. GEORGE TOWN (MAy 28, 2012): Acid attack victim Tan Hui Linn will leave for South Korea to undergo the crucial second phase of her rehabilitation treatment conducted by a team of 10 doctors on June 30. Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, who is assisting Tan, 20, said yesterday that the treatment to remove scars is a follow-up to the surgery she went through at the JK Plastic Surgery Centre in Seoul four months ago. The state BN political committee today discussed a proposal to designate a duty-free zone on a proposed 1,210ha reclaimed area under the Penang Port on the mainland. Committee member Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya, who is also Penang Port Sdn Bhd chairman, said the plan would site a CIQ (customs, immigration and quarantine) zone that would bring economic spin-offs to the state. GEORGE TOWN (May 22, 2012): Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has dismissed reports that Malays are leaving the state as a result of being sidelined as claimed by his former deputy Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin. The former Penanti assemblyman, who resigned from all posts in 2009 and joined Umno soon after, had claimed some 18,000 Malays have left the state due to the high cost of living. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the allegations were false and described such statements as “lies.” He pointed out that Malay voters in the state had increased by some 35,000 as of last year since four years ago. “If you include these voters, who are all aged 21 and above, and their families and children, there should be more,” he said at a press conference yesterday after attending the opening of the ...
